Dear hubby discovered a new sushi restaurant just open on Wednesday while working to Chatswood. So there we went like little kids exploring new frontier of the food galaxy. Later we found out is it a branch from a famous sushi place in Eastwood.
Once we arrived, signalled to the waiter for 2 pax and parked our delicate derrière right next to the sushi conveyor train :-). I was famished in fact I'm constantly famished every other hour... *sigh*... one of those unavoidable pregnancy symptoms. Ordered some dishes, grab a couple sushi plates and we started to take notice of unusual little things e.g.:
a) The sushi train is very / tremendously slow... well restaurant just open, a reasonable excuse... *mental note* no tips hehehe....
b) Nearly every dinner patron has a glass of wine... a small observation since we have frequent quite a number of Japanese restaurants.... :)
c) Everybody seems to know somebody in the restaurant... hmmm... strange to cater dinner parties during the first business day...
d) Everybody seems to be stuffing their face like no tomorrow! Observation: another couple who sat opposite us, a mother and son team, came in about the same time us. They had sushi plates piling nearly to eye level after 15mins!
e) A guy directly opposite hubby signal for the bill. The chief waiter went over, whispered something to him and refused his payment. The guy walked out of the restaurant very quickly. Another... hmmmm....
f) 3 young ladies walked in. The chief waiter told them something and gave them a business card and menu. And the ladies walked off... Hmmm... the restaurant is full-house... wow...
When my ramen arrived, the chief waiter came over and started whispering to us....."Actually tonight is a soft opening for close family and friends of the restaurant owners. Restaurant will be open to public tomorrow" OH-MI-GAWD.... we have just crashed a party !!!! No wonder that explains all those strange observation. I can feel my face starting to get warmer, oh no, I'm blushing with embarrassment! Chief waiter continues, “As a warm welcome to our restaurant, tonight’s meal on the house". Hubby and me just stared at each other for a good moment in disbelieve. After we snapped ourselves awake, we cordially thank the chief waiter.
Guess what, hubby continued grabbing more sushi plates :-) After we were done, I made a quick calculation. we ate about $40+ worth of food. With our packed to the brim tummies, thanked the chief waiter and wobbled off to our car like penguins....hehehe... We'll promised to come again after such great hospitality :-)
